Barbra Streisand received a Lifetime Achievement Award and was named Best Woman at the 2024 SAG Awards.
Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper attended the ceremony, and Streisand received a standing ovation from the audience.
Her emotional speech even left stars like Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone teary-eyed as they listened from the audience.
Streisand joked, “This is a really great award because you know in advance that you’re going to win it and you don’t have to sit there and squirm.”
She continued, “Thank you to SAG-AFTRA. I’m so proud to have been a member for over 60 years. It’s just incredible.”
Speaking frankly about her decision to pursue an acting career, she said: “That pretend world was so much more fun than anything I was experiencing. I didn’t like reality. I wanted to be in the movie even though I knew I couldn’t be in it.”
She recalled: “I’m truly honored to be in this profession. People think of the theater as an escape from their troubles for a few hours. What an idea! To move images on a screen. “I can’t help but think back to the people who built this industry. Ironically, they were running away from their own problems.”
The 81-year-old also cited film industry giants like Samuel Goldwyn and Warner Bros. who changed their Jewish names due to discrimination.
