Ball State University has been at the heart of the Muncie community for over a century and is constantly working to foster connections between the university, Indiana, the neighborhood and neighboring communities. There are many partners working with the university to strengthen this bond, but the relationship between State Ball and the local United Way has always been special.

On Friday, September 9, hundreds of friends and neighbors on and off campus united once again to explore the city of Muncie and do service.Heart of Indiana United Way and Ball States Community Engagement Office Leading the way, real-time improvements were made across the city in a 24-hour period.
Community spaces such as the Cardinal Greenway, Muncie Community School, Second Harvest Food Bank, Camp Adventure, Muncie’s Boys and Girls Club, and Emerson Dog Park have been beautified and updated with benches, shelters and more. Daycare children and nursing home residents were able to enjoy inspiring stories and performances by talented and dedicated Ball State volunteers. little free library It was stocked with books from a recently held used book drive. Hygiene, literacy, and snack kits were filled, and new winter blankets were created to distribute such vital resources to those in need.
The Heart of Indiana United Way is uniquely positioned to identify and target the most important needs of Muncie residents. Through research-based strategies and input from the community, the organization is an expert in how to make the most of the resources donated by its dedicated donors and volunteers. Each program that receives grants from United Way plays an important role in helping families, children and individuals in all sectors. From providing “safety net” services that help those at risk to return to stability, to children from difficult families needing to thrive and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. From providing an extra step forward, every investment made through the United Way has the goal of helping every member of our community thrive!
2022 United Way Ball State Employee Campaign launched on September 28th, giving employees and retirees another chance to work with a dedicated group to give back to the community. tteam captain, we plan events and activities that make fundraising fun. Contributions to the General Fund supporting United Way Awards grants facilitate prioritization of nonprofit programs most in need and are eligible for matching funds from the Ball Brothers Foundation. Donors are also welcome to specify where their donation will be used within the community.
