There have been a lot of twists and turns when it comes to free agency for the Bucks, and more specifically for Baker Mayfield. The Bucs’ newest quarterback, expected to be a former or current quarterback by late spring, has been making the rounds during Super Bowl week and answering plenty of questions.

On the other hand, a large number of signs suggesting ~ Baker Mayfield will regroup with the Bucs (which can’t be ignored unless there’s a big deal), but there’s no guarantee he’ll return to Tampa Bay until he signs on the dotted line.
That’s why Baker Mayfield has to be careful with his words. Mayfield appeared on The Dan Patrick Show this week and was asked a number of questions about the Bucks and other topics. In my personal opinion, Patrick is one of the best interviewers in sports, so he tends to bring out the best in each guest, especially Mayfield this time.

Patrick asked after Mayfield introduced himself. “We talked about your quarterbacking for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so are you still going to be introduced as the quarterback for the Buccaneers?”
Mayfield’s response: “That remains to be determined.”
Patrick right after: “Who’s deciding that?”
And that’s when Mayfield looked into the details.
“I think the ball is in their court now,” Mayfield said. “I’ve been very vocal about mutual benefit. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I had there. And how that organization operates and what its purpose is. How can we win? To win. How can we put our players in the best possible position?
“I’ve been vocal about it. Going into free agency, my mindset is the same, it looks like it’s similar, obviously seeing them firsthand and seeing how they work. I know.”

Why the Bucks were successful last season
Patrick immediately asked Baker Mayfield about how successful the Bucs were last season. If you recall, many thought the Bucks would either compete for the top pick in the draft or try to rebuild their organization. The over-under for wins this season was 6.5, which is through the roof.
The Bucks’ standing will certainly be represented by Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and many others, but that doesn’t take away from what they accomplished in their year together.
“I don’t know why anyone thought Tampa wasn’t going to be a very good team,” Mayfield said. “Obviously Tom (Brady) is Tom and is a great quarterback, but a lot of the pieces that were there for the deep run in the playoffs were still there intact. Great locker. Room, great culture, they know how to win and they’ve been there before.
