Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield did everything in his power The team is looking to beat the 49ers on Sunday afternoon, but I wasn’t close and lost 23-20.. Mayfield had a rough game, not doing much in the passing game. It wasn’t all on him, but he took the blame in the postgame press conference.
It’s no exaggeration to call it Tampa Bay. terribly He needs to get healthy to have a chance to run in the second half of the season. After losing four in a row and losing left tackle Tristan Wirfs and cornerback Zion McCollum to injury during the game, the upcoming period of mental and physical rest is essential to staying healthy. With wide receiver Mike Evans and cornerback Jamel Dean nearing a return, the team hopes to put things together and turn things around against the Giants in Week 12.
Despite the loss to San Francisco, the quarterback was optimistic that the players around him were still fighting. Now more than ever, it’s important that everyone does their job. The ship is not sinking, but the message going forward is that we need everyone on deck to surface.
Here’s what Mayfield had to say after the Bucks’ fourth straight loss: Dropped to 4 wins and 6 losses:
Baker Mayfield’s complete postgame record
Baker Mayfield said this about losing two close games in one week.
“It’s a matter of winning and losing, and I’m still disappointed because I haven’t won yet. [We’ve] We had to play to win on the offensive end. We’re trying to find a balance between trying to win the game and not running out too much time. unfortunately, [we] There were some negative plays there that set us back a little bit. [I] We have to find a way to win, whether it’s by pitching better or winning one-on-one matchups. That’s all that matters. ”
If Baker Mayfield wanted to go for it on fourth down on his final offensive possession:
“From that far away–no. That’s not a question.”
Baker Mayfield on San Francisco 49ers’ ability to limit tight end Cade Otton’s production:
“and [Assistant Head Coach Brandon] Staley, you can see his influence in the way they’re falling off now. [defensive] A little more – simulated pressure. They did it a few times – they went under Cade or under something on some of these choice routes. They made good adjustments. But Cade was a big part of it in the first half, converting a lot on third down. ”
Baker Mayfield talked about the lack of completion among wide receivers.
“Yeah, I have to go back and look at the tape to see if my footwork and route depth is timed. But a lot of it’s just trust and timing. So I look at the tape and see if the time is up. Let’s see – there was a lot of stuff underneath that. I thought I ran the ball…obviously. [we were] In the second half we tried to control the time a little bit and the players up front played well.
“I thought [right tackle] Justin Scurll immediately stepped up in a big way there. For the second year in a row he had to step up and compete. [Nick] Bosa ready for the big game. He did a great job and the other players did a great job as well. As a skill group, we just take the matchups we have and run with them. ”
Baker Mayfield said of moving forward collectively after the upcoming bye week:
“We have to get healthy. [to] become healthy [and] Get ready to do this stretch [run.] Labonte [David] I perfectly understood that in the future I will need everything, both in practice and in games. All that’s left to do is assemble it. We keep saying we’re getting closer to it, but that has to be the message. All you have to do is believe in it and do it. We have a group and the fight, the effort in what we’re doing at the end of the game is never an issue. It’s like, “Okay, there you have it.” Now, let’s go to the execution.’ Plain and simple. Do your job. This will quickly turn things around. ”
Baker Mayfield on whether a mental break during the bye week is as important as a physical break:
“The situation we’re in right now, yeah, it’s definitely a physical issue. Our situation within the team is just the injuries we’ve had so far and everything else. We need to walk away from it, but remember what we sacrificed in these games and come back ready to fix it.”
Baker Mayfield on whether he believed his team would win after Mayfield converted his fourth down of the second half on the final drive, escaping pressure and finishing with defenders at bay. Ta.
“Yeah, when you convert that, you get a new down there. We talked about the negative play over there. I mean, trying to run out the clock and hurting yourself, but still wanting to score.” At the end of the day, you just have to find a way to win and do it.”
Baker Mayfield said of the impact of the numerous injuries to this team’s key starters:
“Sometimes that’s how the season goes. Hopefully, Tristian [Wirfs] is not [a] serious [injury]. I looked at him and at least he seemed to be thinking positively. So that’s good. That’s a positive thing. but, [Justin] Skell has played a lot of ball. No matter what happens, I hope that we will be successful on offense no matter what happens in the future. After the bye, ’13’ (Mike Evans) is coming back, so we’re ready for that. ”
Baker Mayfield talked about the momentum in his team’s favor on the last offensive line.
“On our last drive, we finally got the call. It took us until the fourth quarter and last drive to get it, but I thought, yeah, we got it. I’m going to keep saying that – it’s all about execution in the red zone.”
Baker Mayfield talked about developing young wide receivers.
“‘Shep’ (Sterling Shepard) has played a lot of ball. He’s been a big step up for us. And I want to talk about ‘The Rock’ (Rakim Jarrett) and Ryan Miller. I think their performance was especially great. Our young players have stepped up in a big way and I thought they handled themselves well as we continued to adapt and adjust our plans and personnel on the fly. ”
Baker Mayfield on stepping up running backs Bucky Irving and Rathard White:
“Those are the guys we’re going to rely on and they know the importance of our run game.” [and] What are we trying to do by having both of them at the same time and what does that do for the defense? So they have to take advantage of when they get the ball and cheer each other on when they don’t. But I’m going full throttle for the second half of this year. They have to be ready and we will turn things around. ”
