Baker Mayfield has woken up feeling unsafe in the past.
Now he seems like a perfect fit for the role too.
That was one of the most impressive things about watching Mayfield lead the way. Local Youth Soccer Camps Last weekend in Land O’ Lakes, Fla., several Buccaneers players showed signs of having changed shape before the season. – Nose tackle Vita Vea, right guard Cody Mouch and outside linebackers Yaya Diaby and Jose Ramirez. – The Tampa Bay quarterback has done something similar, appearing to have toned up and shed a few pounds.
In his mind, he sees himself in great shape heading into 2024 and is eager to prove himself as a more polished playmaker.

“I’m definitely in the best shape I’ve been in in a long time,” Mayfield said. “I’ve found my routine, I’ve found a gym and a trainer that I really like, which is the important thing. You learn through the process.” [and as] The years go by. Honestly, it helped that I was able to stay in the same place the whole offseason. I met some great people that helped me get to this point.”
There’s no doubt that Mayfield is finally settling down and focusing solely on football, and with the Buccaneers signing him to a three-year, $100 million contract, he’ll be looking to have back-to-back seasons of success for the first time in his NFL career.
When asked what else has helped him, the former No. 1 draft pick said a recent golf trip helped him prepare for the rigors of the upcoming training session with Tampa Bay.
“It’s going well,” Mayfield said of his offseason conditioning. – I spent about five days at Lake Tahoe. The golf tournamentIt’s incredible. It’s hard to get used to, going up to high altitude, up a mountain with no humidity and then coming back here. But I feel good, I’m in great shape, so it’s just a matter of staying hydrated and preparing properly in the heat.”

Baker Mayfield has not only been getting in shape physically for the upcoming season, but he’s also been preparing mentally as he tries to master offensive coordinator Liam Cohen’s system. While Mayfield has exceeded expectations in his first year with the Buccaneers, there are still some areas he wants to improve on heading into Year 2.
Just don’t expect him to lose his grit and energetic personality on the field.
“Like we talked about at the end of the year, management at the line of scrimmage puts us in the best position to be successful as far as adjustments,” Mayfield said of how he can improve this year. “In this system, we can do that. It might just be a different way of preparing, understanding those perspectives and saying, ‘OK, these are the calls I’m going to make in the system.’ Just continue to take care of the ball like you always do, keep having that fierce edge and be that same person for the guys every day. To me, that’s something you can always improve on.”
What will help him achieve his goals is the fact that there will be continuity around him. Moving from Dave Canales to Cohen will require an adjustment, but the system is similar enough and familiar that we shouldn’t expect as many of the growing pains he and the offense experienced at the start of last season.

In terms of personnel, they have the same weapons stockpiles, Supporting Roles It will be the best thing he’s ever done.
In his mind, The Buccaneers have all the pieces. Now it’s just a matter of putting it all together and building on the foundations that have been established.
“That’s going to help a lot,” Mayfield said of continuity on offense. “I think we had a great offseason program, everybody was learning the system with Liam. [Coen]but I’ve done a little introduction before, and it’s similar to Dave [Canales’] It’s an old system. The language is different and so on.
“The continuity in that always helps me. To go from one year to the next, you need knowledge of the system, experience, practice or practice with certain players. That continuity can always be improved upon.” – Now it’s just a matter of going out there and doing it.”
