Avril Lavigne Sounds Off On ‘Dumb’ Conspiracy Theory She Just Can’t Shake

Avril Lavigne is increasingly insisting that she’s not actually a Kagemusha.

In an interview with Alex Cooper, the rocker opened up about the crazy conspiracy theories that have haunted her for years. “Call her daddy.” The podcast was released on Wednesday.

For those not familiar with this rumor, there is a minority of people who believe that Lavigne died in the early 2000s and that a replacement named Melissa publicly assumed Lavigne’s identity in her place.

“It’s just funny to me,” the singer said on “Call Me Daddy.” “On the one hand, everyone’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, you look exactly the same.’ You haven’t aged a day. But other people are like, ‘Look, I’m not me. There’s a conspiracy theory.”

“It’s not that bad, to be honest. It could be worse, right?” Lavigne continued. “I feel like I got a good thing. I don’t think it’s a negative thing or anything, I don’t think it’s creepy…I mean, obviously, I’m me and it’s so ridiculous.”

The “I’m With You” singer has revisited this theory over the years, always finding humor in its strangeness.

“Some people think I’m not the real me, which is so weird,” she said in an interview on an Australian radio show. “Kyle & Jackie O. Show” “Why would they think that?”

Lavigne also talked about the conspiracy. In Galore magazine’s 2022 profile“I don’t understand what that means.”

“What people bring up, and it’s been brought up to me for years, is that there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me? Am I a clone? “I don’t know how that happened, it’s just the weirdest rumor,” she said.
