At least 24 people arrested in Iran face execution for their involvement in anti-government protests that have swept the country as demonstrators demand women’s rights.
The Iranian daily Etemad reportedly published on Friday a list of judicial authorities who accused 25 demonstrators of “waging war against God”.
Shekari’s name was also on the list.

Iran carries out first protesters since nationwide women’s rights demonstrations began
Authorities suggested further executions would take place, according to local news outlets.
The United Nations condemned the execution of the 23-year-old, with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights saying it was “clearly intended to send a chilling effect on the remaining protesters”.
“We will follow up with the authorities on this as well,” he said.
“All I can do is … call on the authorities to immediately initiate a moratorium on the death penalty, release those arrested in connection with the protests, and work towards abolishing the death penalty,” he added. .

Future of Iran’s morality police unclear after official’s statement
Thousands have hit the streets across Iran in the months since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was murdered in police custody in September.
Amini’s death caught the world’s attention after she was arrested for improperly wearing a hijab and beaten by Iran’s morality police.
The women then took off their hijabs and cut their hair in protest against the Khamenei regime’s repressive practices.
According to some reports, Tehran has aggressively cracked down on demonstrators, with more than 18,000 people arrested for protesting.
The Iranian Journal reported this week that some women have been threatened with sexual violence after being arrested and interrogated by Iranian security forces.

Some have gone missing or died after being arrested.
As of Friday, according to the activist news agency HRANA, at least 481 protesters had been killed, but demonstrations continued.
