A long-time favorite Italian restaurant in Ferndale will close after New Year’s Eve, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
Asagi Bistroo, 330 W. 9 miles, opened over 20 years ago. The new restaurant is set to open in the spring after renovating the space.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers for their patronage over the years and the many wonderful memories they have made.”

The Thursday afternoon Assaggi Bistro, posted with its “mixed feelings”, will be closing permanently at the end of this month after more than 20 years in business.
According to the post, the last night of service will be New Year’s Eve.

Owners George Gize and Josie Knapp sold the restaurant in August after more than 22 years of operating the restaurant in downtown Ferndale on the W. Nine Mile.
Reached by phone on Thursday afternoon, Knapp said the restaurant will go on sale in 2021. The sale closed at the end of July, she said. We operate.
“We will sell it after 22 years and the people who bought it will have a new concept with a name change.” I am happy to work, everything will be exactly the same until the end of the year.”
Assaggi Bistro is known for its elegant white tablecloth restaurants.The dining area seats over 60 people. The website says the adjoining room can seat 35 of him. There is also outdoor patio seating.
The menu shows Mediterranean and European influences.
The twice-cooked Moroccan duck leg was a “Great Plate” feature by the late Sylvia Lecter and Free Press restaurant critic. The rector described the duck meat as “fork tender” with an “exotic Moroccan flavor”. According to the website, the dish still on the menu combines duck leg with couscous, pistachios, dried fruit, pomegranate barbecue sauce, and sesame seeds.
I called the restaurant and it was confirmed that they would be closing to renovate the space to a new concept.
