It might sound creepy and illegal, but the next time you book a short-term vacation rental, the owner might set up a camera for you.
Some creeps use hidden cameras, sometimes for outdoor security purposes.
Is it legal to use a camera in a vacation rental?
Vacation rental companies like Airbnb and Vrbo have rules about when a host has a camera.
Hosts may install cameras in rental spaces as long as they are in public areas such as front desks and backyards.
However, the use of cameras in private areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms is strictly prohibited. Additionally, if a host has cameras installed in their rental space, they should clearly state this in the guidelines so that potential renters are aware of it before booking.

What steps should I take before booking a rental?
The first thing you should do is View details For all rentals you are considering booking. Most rentals will have a lot of information listed on them, such as the amenities the rental offers and house rules.

If you don’t see anything in the camera guidelines, you can also contact the host directly to ask if you can expect a video or audio recording device during your stay at the property before booking.
If their answer isn’t easy, or you feel some kind of aggression from them, feel free to move on to another rental.
What should I do after booking a rental?
Once you’ve booked your rental and been to the property, you can check in all the usual and unusual locations to make sure there are no hidden recording devices in sight.
Also check out private rooms such as bedrooms and bathrooms. Also, take a closer look at devices such as fire detectors that may be placed facing your bed.

If you want to make sure there are no unknown devices, you can invest in a radio frequency (RF) detector. Some of the better quality ones are a little more expensive.
But you need to make sure you get one that gives accurate results. This is what I found on Amazon Advance GQ EMF-390,Priced at $119.90 at launch, it has more than 2,200 reviews worldwide, with 73% five-star ratings.
