Apple is currently working on the next iPhone 16 series. However, a new report suggests that a new button is planned for the device: the capture button. Bloomberg’s Mark Garman revealed that the capture button has the ability to capture video footage. Garman revealed in a recent Power On newsletter that the next iPhone 16 model will include a “new dedicated button for video recording.”

While the name itself hints at the functionality of the capture button, this is the first time its purpose has been officially confirmed.
The capture button on iPhone 16 is placed at the bottom right. On US iPhone models, the mmWave antenna is now moved to the left side of the device, below the volume and action buttons. On the other hand, non-US models do not require repositioning the mmWave antenna to make room for the capture button.
The Capture Button is expected to be a capacitive button with haptic feedback, unlike traditional mechanical buttons.

It is also planned to be equipped with a force sensor that can detect pressure. The placement of the button may make it easier to activate, but if you apply pressure to the button and hold it down, it may activate the camera and allow video recording. Additionally, changing the level of pressure could provide the option to access photo or video modes (particularly spatial video), but this is speculation at the moment.
All four iPhone 16 models feature a capture button that, when combined with spatial video and the Vision Pro headset, demonstrates Apple’s commitment to improving the speed and accessibility of video recording.
Additionally, the Vision Pro headset enables playback of immersive 3D spatial video that can be captured using an iPhone.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max now have the ability to capture spatial video using both the wide-angle and ultra-wide cameras simultaneously. This feature was introduced in iOS 17.2.

Upcoming iPhone 16 models will feature a novel vertical lens arrangement that also allows for spatial video capture. Therefore, this feature will no longer be limited to Pro models in the future. Spatial video can only be experienced through the Vision Pro headset, and its purpose is to provide users with an immersive and memorable experience.
