Angie Stone, one of the queens of neo-soul and a member of iconic hip-hop trio The Sequence, died in an early morning car accident Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama.
Her daughter, Performer Diamond, confirmed her death Facebookdeclares “My mom is gone” and adds a crying emoji string to her post.
Stone’s representative said later. TMZ The 63-year-old singer had just left a performance when the accident occurred.
WSFA It took Stone’s life and covered the crash, which appears to have posted images of the shipwreck. According to the outlet, the crash occurred around 7am local time, with “commercial vehicles” involved.
Social media users have identified other vehicles involved as 18-wheeled vehicles, but authorities have not yet confirmed details.
A tireless performer, Stone joined Nicci Gilbert, Keke Wyatt, Chanté Moore and Monifah just a month ago at the “Urban One Honors: Best in Black” event at Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta.
On December 18th, 1961, a teenage stone, born in Columbia, South Carolina, first invaded the music scene.
The rap group was the second act of Sugar Hill Records and was a huge hit with “Funk You Up” (1979).
After the band broke up in 1985, Stone sang alongside Mantronics, Vertical Hold and Debox. She had songwriting credits on her first album by boyfriend D’Angelo, where she had a son.
Stone appeared himself in a 10 solo studio album, starting with 1999’s “Black Diamond.” She named the album for her daughter Diamond along with Rodney Stone.
R&B and Adult Total: We provided “No More Rain,” “Life Story,” and “Daily Life.”
Her next solo set, “Mahogany Soul” (2001), featured one of her most enduring hits, “Wish I Miss You.”
Along the way, Stone also performed alongside Beyonce alongside the comedy The Hot Chick (2002) and The Fighting Temptations (2003), including Mama Morton from Broadway’s “Chicago” (2003).
She also appeared in reality series, including “R&B Divas: Atlanta” (2013-2014).
The stone was survived by her two children.
