There is no doubt that rising debt is one of the greatest threats facing America today.in $33.5 trillion, growing rapidly, Congress must address this extraordinary problem. The historic multi-trillion dollar burden on American taxpayers is not only a threat to our economy, but also a threat to our national security.
As I hug and kiss my three children in the morning, I pray that they have a future filled with opportunities just like mine. As I sit with them, I think of the sons and daughters across this country who will lose the opportunity to achieve the American Dream because politicians in Washington choose to negotiate away their futures. I remember.
As a member of Congress, I will do everything I can to ensure an end to the economic madness that threatens future generations. In fact, the main reason I decided to run for Congress was secure The next generation of Americans has a bright and prosperous future. But now, that future is at stake.
Yellen and the rest of the Bidenomics team ignore the middle-class misery their policies create
If Congress does not rein in spending, move toward a more balanced budget, and adopt the tradition of single-subject spending bills, your children and my children will be condemned to a lifetime of inflation, debt, and economic ruin. It became clear to me that it was going to happen. . We have a duty to prevent that from happening.
Without a solution to the $33 trillion federal budget deficit, massive tax increases, rapid inflationincreased unemployment, and higher interest rates will all be consequences that children will have to face.
If Congress does not rein in spending, move toward a more balanced budget, and adopt the tradition of single-subject spending bills, your children and my children will be condemned to a lifetime of inflation, debt, and economic ruin. It became clear to me that it was going to happen. .
This problem becomes even scarier when you realize that: From 2027the United States will spend more on interest payments than on interest payments. all Other expenses. And in 2012, our national debt exceeded our annual gross domestic product (GDP) for the first time since World War II.
As election season approaches, Republicans often make fiscal responsibility a campaign promise to voters. But given the huge increase in debt over the past decade, it’s clear that few are making good on this promise.
Three major spending-related decisions have been made so far in the 118th Congress.
The first was the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (FRA). A deal negotiated by Sen. Chuck Schumer and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy to raise the government’s debt ceiling.
Biden repeats ‘misleading’ claim of reducing US budget deficit by $1.7 trillion: ‘Bottomless Pinocchio’
Failure to raise the debt ceiling could result in the US defaulting on its debts, which I recognize is a very serious consequence, given the immediate green light for additional debt. And I’m proud to have voted against this bill. $3.6 trillion in spending over the next 18 months.
In fact, the United States has spent more than $1.1 trillion in the four months since FRA was passed, and I proudly voted against it.
The remaining two votes were on a continuing resolution (CR) that former Speaker McCarthy brought to the floor to provide temporary funding to the government.
On each of these votes, I once again proudly disagreed and voted against them.
For the past 30 years, Congress has been obsessed with passing continuing resolutions that fund the entire government with a single yes or no vote. Congress wasn’t designed to work this way, and that’s exactly why we went from surpluses in the 1990s to federal deficits that were unimaginable a few decades ago.
The only way forward is to consider and pass 12 separate spending bills each year that focus on the health and prosperity of our country, not humane pet projects in places most Americans can’t find on a map. .
We must put America first.

As House Republicans decide on their next Speaker, I ask my friends in the House, the Senate, and the American people to know that this must not stand in the way of addressing our nation’s existential debt and spending crisis. I would like to have it.
I’m hearing voices around Congress that they might try to pass an additional continuing resolution and use the delay caused by the search for a new speaker as an excuse.
To be clear, the next Speaker of the House must commit to and deliver on the remaining eight spending bills to fund the government without the need for additional continuing resolutions.
It will then be up to the Democratic-controlled Senate and President Biden to responsibly fund the government and redirect our nation’s reckless and dangerous spending.
Business as usual in Washington must end.
