Amazon’s Prime Day 48-hour sale begins on Tuesday, July 16 at 3am ET/12am PT and ends on Wednesday, July 17. This is Amazon’s 10th Prime Day event, and while the company hasn’t revealed the exact number of items that will be on sale, over the past few years, millions of items have been sold at great prices that average 40% off.
Amazon is starting with early product sales, and some early Prime Day sales are available now. The number of categories on sale has not yet been announced, but during the main Prime Day event, sales are expected to be held across a wide range of categories, including major TV brands, smart home devices, fashion, beauty and health, furniture, pet supplies, tools, and fitness equipment.

Prime Day sales may last just a few minutes, and some sales will end when stocks last. The Prime Day event has three different promotions.
1) Featured Deals: These are usually larger, more expensive items that are sold for a limited time only.
2) Today’s Gold Box Sale: These are small, inexpensive items that are sold for a limited time only.
3) Lighting Deals: These are the most popular types of Prime Day sales, as they usually have very limited quantities of items and only last for a few minutes.
Rank these from least urgent to most urgent. Lighting sales are almost always the best value and last only a short time or until they sell out, sometimes only a few minutes. Even if it seems like the sale is over, you might be able to avoid it easily by following these tips:

My 6 Tips for a Prime Day Battle Plan
1) Create a wishlist on Amazon: Put in all the things you buy regularly throughout the year, like dog food, light bulbs, household essentials, etc. Add upcoming birthdays and big-ticket items you’ve been holding off on, and make your holiday gift list well in advance to save big.
2) “Join the waitlist” for sold-out items What you wanted and missed: Think it’s sold out? Probably not. Items in other shoppers’ carts will expire if not purchased within 15 minutes, and if you’re on a waitlist, you may receive a notification that the item is now yours.
3) Download the Amazon smartphone or tablet app To see the best deals first: The app lets you see upcoming deals first and create a “see this deal” list to get notified when deals go live.
4) For special offers, just ask, “Alexa, what are the deals?” As you listen to this voice description of the deal, you can say “Alexa, next” to move on to the next deal. Voice shopping is totally tedious, and Amazon knows it, which is why they’re enticing us to try it with even better deals you’ll find on their site.
5) Compare prices from other retailers: Just look at prices from brands like BestBuy, Walmart, Kohl’s, Target, and many other sources are capitalizing on the Prime Day excitement as well.
6) Shop safely online: Make sure your internet connection is secure, Phishing scamsAlways buy directly from Amazon’s official website or app. The best way to protect yourself from clicking on malicious links that could install malware that could access your personal information is to have strong antivirus protection installed on all your devices, which will also warn you about phishing emails and ransomware scams. We’ve handpicked the winners of the best antivirus protection of 2024 for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

Beware the Prime Day fiasco
- avoid Unknown brand It is often disappointing
- avoid Fake reviews Use CounterfeitInstead of adding a browser extension, you simply copy and paste a link to an Amazon product listing into the search field. Fakespot analyzes the results and displays a text rating and description. The goal is to weed out fake reviews and identify problematic listings.
- avoid Check the lowest price history and avoid overpaying in CamelCamelCamel.comThe price history of almost every Amazon product is recorded here, and it will show you whether you’re buying at the lowest price.
- avoid Amazon Assistant Browser Plugin Privacy concerns: Amazon’s browser plug-in makes it convenient to compare products and track deals, but it can also come at the expense of your privacy by tracking your web browsing activity.
