Amanda Seyfried and Nicholas Pinnock spoke to “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi about “Long Bright River” about the new suspense thriller series based on Liz Moore’s bestsellers.
Amanda stars as Mickey. Mickey is a nearby Philadelphia police officer who was hit hard by the opioid crisis, and her sister is looking for a missing addict. Nicholas plays Truman, a police partner.
Amanda told stories about marginalized communities and reflected in talking about addiction in a human way.
She said “blown away” after hearing the audiobook.
Nicholas agrees that the show offers integrity, truth and hope, which awakens to the real struggles people experience.
He said, “It was definitely a sense of community at the heart of everything… Liz has a great, wonderful way to create this fictional world, but it’s real, honestly, honestly and trusting what I read in the book, and hopefully translated into the script, but it was a perfect adaptation.”
Pinnock said, “At the heart of that, there are these people who really care about it. I think that’s a lot of what our society lacks from today.”
Amanda also spoke about the mom’s guilt that her character feels, revealing that her own son’s name is not Thomas (the name of her character).
She explained: Isn’t that interesting? …I love that he has a secret name. ”
As to how she relates to Mickey, Safried said: “I say it’s really relevant… Mickey is a bit offensive as a mom, you can feel her guilt and you know the guilt that’s how you feel when you’re not around, but you’re like that and you’re trying to support all the information all at once.”
She added that guilt is “sometimes an internal organ,” and “it’s a lot of people… we have to be more kind to ourselves.”
Peacock’s “Long Bright River” will be playing on March 13th.
