UFC 289 was another memorable night as the GOAT left the competition with both title belts intact after another dominant performance.
Legendary Amanda Nunes headlined UFC 289 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, made her opponent Irene Aldana look like she didn’t belong, and then retired as the greatest female fighter of all time. .
Nunes, who reclaimed the belt last summer and avenged a submission loss to Juliana Peña, made her first bantamweight title defense against Aldana on Saturday via unanimous decision. Nunes dominated all rounds on all three judges’ scorecards. He smiled and announced his retirement from mixed martial arts in a post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
Saturday’s pay-per-view also included the much-anticipated match between Charles Oliveira and Benir Darish. In theory, this lightweight showdown was the most interesting and potentially thrilling bout of the night, and it paid off.
Former UFC lightweight champion Oliveira bounced back from losing the title to Islam Makhachev last October by finishing in the first round against Dariush, who entered the fight on an eighth straight win.
