Air Canada’s latest airplanes will soon have a completely new look.
The Montreal-based airline announced plans on Tuesday to begin launching an all-new cabin next year.
The new design is set to debut with the Airbus A220 Jets, Canada’s flagship airline said at a press conference hosted by German Airbus.
Passengers will begin to see new interiors in 2026.
It is not an Air Canada milestone. The cabin refresh marks the debut of the A220 Airbus “Airspace” cabin.

Known for its elaborate lighting panels, airy, spacious cabin layouts and many updated, more practical features, airspace cabins have already been flying on a wide range of airlines on other types of planes. However, this is the first time PlaneMaker’s airspace design has reached the A220. First joined the Air Canada fleet It was only five years ago, late 2019.
Big overhead bin
For Air Canada passengers, the most specific upgrade is the larger overhead bin.
They would be 20% bigger, Carrier said – enough room for up to 19 extra bags. This is not a small feat of an airplane that swepts up to 137 passengers.
These bins should also be easier to close and latch downward to hinge upward, as we saw when we toured the Airbus design mockups on Tuesday at the Aircraft Interior Expo, the major industrial conference in Hamburg.
These bins need to be easier and faster so that passengers (not to mention flight attendants) can close as precious seconds tick off before departure.
Additionally, the updated A220 will help pioneer two improvements that Air Canada has previously announced. Fast, free onboard Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members I saw the new Panasonic 4K seat back screen (below) last year.

Overall Update – For A220 and later
But the refreshed aesthetic should also be a great improvement. Air France calls it a “shining heart” design.
“The cabin is much warmer than it was in the past, and it’s intentional,” John Moody, managing director of onboard products, said at a press conference Tuesday. “What we want to offer is the warm personality and warm compassion that Canadians know.”

Expect warmth above A220. Air Canada’s design, announced Tuesday by the French plan maker, should “flow” over other Air Canada aircraft types, Moody said.
He certainly couldn’t say that, but it should be noted that dozens of long-distance Airbus A321XLRs have been ordered from the airline. This new variant of the aircraft has rolled out new styles and premium seat types for a wide range of airlines, from American Airlines to Iberia.

“Think of it as deep bullying,” Moody said of Air Canada’s plans. “The XLR is here. There will be other aircraft types that will introduce new products.
Conclusion
Air Canada currently has 35 A220s in its fleet and is flying over a wide range of North American routes. According to the airline, the new Airspace cabin will debut with the arrival of the 43rd A220. Delivery is currently scheduled for March 2026.
For now, the airline is not planning to modify the existing A220 with a new product.
Air Canada’s A220S features 12 Premium Recryers in business class in North America. The main cabin has 125 seats arranged in an A220 signature 2 x 3 configuration.
