Israel Adesanya’s mental approach has evolved for his title-winning rematch with Alex Pereira. Adesanya will be looking to win the middleweight championship from Pereira when he and Pereira face off in his main event at UFC 287 on April 8 in Miami. At UFC 281, Pereira returned to claim the middleweight title with a knockout win over Adesanya in round 5. When Adesanya was asked if he had a different mindset for the rematch with Pereira, he responded in the affirmative.

At 185 pounds, Adesanya suffered his first defeat at the hands of Pereira. Before that, Adesanya had made five successful title defenses, with wins over Robert Whittaker, Jared Canonnier, Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero along the way. His only professional loss before that came in March 2021 when he challenged and lost to light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.
