Aaron Pierre, Tiffany Boone, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. perform the Disney movie “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
Extra’s Sadie Murray spoke with Aaron, Tiffany and Kelvin at the San Diego Safari Park.
Aaron voices Mufasa, Tiffany voices Sarabi, and Kelvin voices Scar, and they talk about what we’ll learn about their complicated backstories before The Lion King.
Aaron says, “In the original we meet him as a king. He’s the pinnacle of the community. He’s loved and admired, but that’s not where he started. He had a very different beginning, but that’s the point. He worked his way up until he was separated from his family. He was ostracized, he was fired, he was called names, and I think it’s a beautiful story and a beautiful trajectory to know that that’s where he started. Yet he actually accepted his situation and rose to the point where we finally met him.”
Tiffany loved playing Sarabi, Mufasa’s wife, because of the “sassiness” of the character.
She said Sarabi was also “like an orphan” and had “lost her pride.”
“She’s carrying a little bit of a backpack of sadness. She has to pull our shoulders back and stand on her own four legs,” Tiffany explained. “She’s complex, but fun. It’s a complexity you didn’t see in the original.”
Kelvin revealed how he got into the role when voicing Scar, saying, “I had him create a bar where he could just lean in temporarily and move his shoulders and nod his head and neck.I thought it would be fun.” I felt like that would happen,” he said. I was really into it because it influenced the voice and how he was portrayed. ”
Aaron also teased that he will be playing Green Lantern in HBO’s Lantern series, expressing how much this project means to him.
He said, “I’m already preparing for Green Lantern.”
He admitted this while showing love to Tiffany and Kelvin for making it so exciting. It’s very important to me to serve this character, who I love, and to do it right. We are very grateful to the team that has assembled around this project, and we look forward to sharing it with you in the near future. ”
“Mufasa” will be released on December 20th.
