I had the opportunity to talk Andrew GoldenTop Nations has broken the reporter in the Washington Post. He was a great interview and gave some insights in the future and some of his personal backstations.
Q: What did you think about the Nationals off season so far? Do you think a potential new addition will come?
A: Their off season is interesting. They have signed some signatures that they would improve their power. Obviously they brought Josh Bell and exchanged with Nasaniel Row. They have upgraded the power of the roster and believe they have more options. The home run power has been missing the nationals for a while.
At the start of the rotation, they have many young people, but they also have some solid signatures. Mike Soloka showed many possibilities when he went to a bullpen last year. It would be interesting to see if he could translate it to the start. I like Soloka’s signature.
Regarding additional signatures, Mike Ritzo said that the team will continue to monitor what the team is on the market. When we spoke last week, he said he was alert to sign a player with qualifying offers. So I don’t expect them to bring one of them. They may have potentially bring people in a minor league transaction.
Q: What did you expect during this off season? Did you think the team would do more?
A: Especially with Corbin’s contract came out of the book, I hoped that they would do a little more. I thought there were so many areas, but it depended on the organization, and when they thought that free agents were worth it. There were some free agents and some red flags in that they were free and aged. There was a possibility of drop -off. Obviously you need to consider it.
I think there were many meaningful free agents. You cannot have sufficient high -quality starting pitching. I hoped that they would spend a little more, but there were some restrictions.
Q: Can you explain a little background to yourself and how you entered this position and how you fell in love with baseball?
A: I started covering the team in 2022. Before participating in the sports break news team in the post. I always love baseball. I had never covered it in college, but I grew it up, and it was my best sport. When they called and asked to cover baseball, I said Jesus, I would never miss the opportunity to cover baseball. That was a pleasure. I was passionate about writing sports and being around sports. This was an opportunity I couldn’t cross.
Q: Did you grow up in the area?
A: I grew up in Baltimore County in a small town. My grandparents were native Washington, and my mother grew up in Upper Marlboro. I’m very familiar with this area and it’s great to come back.
Q: Are there any players, especially among young people, looking forward to seeing them during spring training?
A: There are a handful of people who are looking forward to seeing it. Obviously, I’m looking forward to seeing a big name like James [Wood] And Dylan [Crews] And what do they look like? I am fascinated by seeing how young camps do. There are a handful of new men, such as Daylen Lile and Andrew Pinckney. I want to see how they meet in the camp. Robert Hassel is another man of that type.
There are many young people at the start rotation. The back of the rotation is an interesting storyline. McKenzie Gore, Jake Arbin, and Mike Soloka are like three men with spots, but it would be interesting to see how they would shake. What do people like DJ HERZ, Mitchell Parker, and Ogasawara look like? How does Treva Williams fit there? There is definitely a fun story line. There are a lot of excitement to go to the camp. For many young people, it is their second camp. How do they look the second time after getting the taste last year?
Q: What was the highlight of the beat?
A: It was quite cool to see James and Dylan’s debut because it was a culmination of something that has been around for a long time. It was really cool to see it happening. The Little League World Series Game was a great experience. They come to mind. It was surreal to see Juan Soto’s trade developing during my first year in the beat. It was my first year, and I was trying to feel everything. It was unique to see everything was played. I love these unique experiences like a debut that you can see only once.
Q: Are there any bold predictions this season?
A: Think for a little … My bold prediction is that James Wood hit 35 home runs. The other is that DJ HERZ is leading NAT with victory. I think DJs will spend a big year. It’s a little far away, and victory is not only pitcher statistics, but I also use it.
