Los Angeles police have arrested four men in connection with the murder of Johnny Wactor.
NBC News Reports Robert Barcelo, 18, Leonel Gutierrez, 18, and Sergio Estrada, 18, were arrested on suspicion of murder, while Frank Olano, 22, was arrested as an accomplice.
Bail for each was set at $2 million, according to jail records.
In a statement to NBC News, the Los Angeles Police Department said officers executed a search warrant in Los Angeles, which led to the discovery of evidence and the arrests.
It is unclear whether they have hired lawyers.
In response to the news, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass Posts “I want to thank the LAPD for their cooperation and hard work on this case and their ongoing efforts to keep Los Angeles residents safe and bring justice to victims of violence. Now we must ensure that those responsible for this brazen and heinous act are held fully accountable,” X’s post said.
Wachter was killed in a 3 a.m. shooting on a Los Angeles street in May when he was walking to his car with his friend, Anita Joy, after working as a bartender at Level 8. Police believe he was trying to thwart the theft of catalytic converters, according to NBC News.
As news spread that police were making arrests in the case, Anita told “Extra,” “We’re all just hoping and praying that these are the right people and that they will be arrested and convicted.”
Since the murder, Johnny’s family has continued to fight for justice.
This week, “True Crime News” host Ana Garcia spoke with Wachter’s mother, Scarlett, on “Extra.”
Still recovering from the shock of the shooting, Scarlett becomes emotional and tells Anna, “If they would just catch them, it would be so much easier to process this.”
“They say, ‘We’re going to get you,’ and I just have to trust them,” Scarlett said of authorities.
She told Ana that justice meant “life in prison without the possibility of parole.”
As for finding the killer, Scarlett said, “I think someone has to come forward or make some kind of discovery. Whether it’s an investigative journalist, a detective or a member of the community. Someone knows something. They just have to do the right thing. Johnny would have done the right thing.”
