Greece’s labor force could grow by 398,000 people if the labor force participation rate for the 15-74 age group were to match the EU average. The government is considering measures to focus on four population segments with relatively low labor force participation rates:
• Require large companies (with more than 250 employees) to set up childcare centers or subsidize childcare fees.
• Increased flexibility in parental leave.
• Obligation to allow teleworking due to the nature of the work.
• Provide equal parental leave for mothers and fathers.
• Implementation of quota directives for boards of directors of listed companies.
• Young people caring for elderly people in their neighborhoods.
• Strengthening existing programs in elderly care.
• Career days or summer training at universities and higher education institutions in general.
• Eliminating the so-called welfare trap for workers up to the age of 25.
• People who find employment should not lose their severe disability benefits.
• Career Day Abroad for young people who want to return to Greece but don’t know how to settle.
