American Airlines announced it will lay off more than 320 employees in North Texas as part of a reorganization of its customer service team.
The Fort Worth-based airline said the reorganization will “provide an even higher level of support for our travelers in the future.”
“Today, we announced updates to our contact center organization that will help us better serve our customers. As part of these updates, we are introducing a new customer success team dedicated to providing more convenient and enhanced support for American Airlines customers. “For some of the most complex travel needs,” the airline said in a statement.
The Dallas Morning News reported. An additional 335 workers in Phoenix would also be affected by the reconfiguration. The newspaper reported that the customer success team currently consists of 135 employees.
The airline said the employees whose positions were eliminated are not union representatives and can apply to more than 800 of the company’s current job openings, including those on its restructured customer success team.
American Airlines said severance benefits will be provided to employees who cannot find employment elsewhere within the company or who are eligible to leave. American said it will provide outplacement assistance to employees if they wish to take a job outside the company.
The airline said its customer team members will continue to work and be paid until March 30.
