The Daily Dot reached out to Aldi via press email and @iostrigga in the comments on TikTok. The video racked up over 696,000 views for him, with many commenters saying they had done the same thing.
“Especially if I’m there with a food card. Let’s all get a box for Christmas,” one viewer wrote.
“For that price, I’d buy every box in the store!!” a second agreed.
“I would do the exact same thing. No shame,” said a third person.
One viewer was particularly shocked by the price. “I have never seen anything sold like that,” they wrote.
On the other hand, some people explain why.
“When they need to free up space, they usually put away holiday stuff and check expiration dates,” one viewer advised.
“It’s probably about to expire. I worked at Aldi last Christmas and it expired within a few days of receiving the same,” echoed another.
Aldi is known for offering discounts on baked goods five days before the expiry date. However, it is unclear whether the company will do the same for other items. Still, it’s best to be cautious.according to lover of money, “Sometimes you can tell by looking at the label. If a product appears to be labeled twice, you may want to think twice about purchasing it. Or, if removing the new label reveals an old label with an old expiration date, ask the manager for a discount.
Some stores have clearance specials on items that are about to expire, but double check the label. If the expiration date is approaching based on the new label, it may be well past the original date. You may want to avoid that item. ”
