MADISON, S.D. (KELO) — The Madison Domestic Violence Network has launched a new campaign to raise funds for expansion.
The Domestic Violence Network currently has three bedrooms and two bathrooms to house people fleeing domestic violence. In some cases, this may not provide enough space for those seeking safety.
“There have been a few times where we’ve actually had to put individuals in hotels because we don’t have rooms,” said Executive Director Chris Bishop.
For this reason, staff launched the “Build a Room” campaign.
“We’re doing a basement expansion, adding two bedrooms, a bathroom, a common area and a play area,” Bishop said.
The expansion will cost approximately $15,000. A member of the community would like to offer assistance.
Exit Realty has partnered with the Domestic Violence Network to help raise funds for expansion by donating sheds.
“We considered playing house because it’s kind of cute. It’s small. We didn’t know if it would be used here for the families and kids who came here to get something or if they wanted to use it as a fundraiser. ” said Adam Folland of Exit Realty.
As part of the campaign, a raffle will be held from the shed.
“We hope to make about $10,000 from that project, and we’re really grateful to Exit Realty for thinking of us and working with us on our ‘Build A Room’ campaign. I’m grateful,” Bishop said.
“It kind of resonates and, you know, it breaks my heart to see a breakdown within a family. I don’t have all the things that maybe a lot of us have. We have a soft spot for kids, and in a way, we play roughshod over it,” Forland said.
Provide safe shelter for those without shelter.
Raffle tickets cost $10 for one or $50 for six.
