Ahead of Sunday’s Week 13 showdown between the 8-3 49ers and the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, there is a lot of discussion surrounding the blitz for both teams.
While both teams rank near the top of the NFL in offensive stats, each averaging 28.2 points per game and third-best, one former 49ers coach said San Francisco’s offensive stats against Philadelphia He believes his advantage is due to someone on the sideline.
Featuring NFL Network Analyst Steve Mariucci NBC Sports Philadelphia On the “Takeoff Podcast” with John Clark, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan explained what gives San Francisco an offensive edge over the Eagles.
“I love, love, love play-calling and game planning,” Mariucci told Clark. “Kyle Shanahan, he’s like a maestro with those weapons. Kyle can game plan and make play calls to you like no one else.”
Shanahan ranks sixth on the 49ers offense in both total yards (4,247) and total points (310).
And while running back Christian McCaffrey leads the NFL with 939 yards, Mariucci said Shanahan’s passing scheme is the main reason for San Francisco’s offensive dominance and that the Eagles’ defense I believe that this is something that deserves attention.
“Yeah, they had receivers everywhere,” Mariucci explained to Clark. why? Because it’s open. It’s not because Brandon Aiyuk is Jerry Rice, he’s a hell of a player. His planning and creativity are truly amazing. Because when you watch it, you think, “Wow, this offense is so cool to watch.”
“Whether or not the Eagles pass defense can withstand the 49ers’ play-action passing game is going to be the storyline of this game. The Eagles defense… Darius Slay and [James] Bradbury — [Kevin] Bayard too, this time. They are really excellent players. But they’re giving up a lot of yards and they’re giving up a lot of touchdowns. ”
Philadelphia’s defense allows the fourth-worst 255.7 passing yards per game and the fifth-worst 2,813 passing yards per game.
In comparison, the 49ers rank eighth with 250.1 passing yards per game, so Shanahan and San Francisco should cherish this matchup.
Simply put, the 49ers excel in every aspect of their offense due to their proven talent and chemistry.
But as Mariucci explained, Shanahan’s ability to get the most out of his roster gives San Francisco an advantage over Philadelphia.
The 49ers offense is poised to dominate as they look to showcase the entire fourth quarter of the Brock Purdy-led offense against the Eagles for the first time in a preview of a potential NFC title game.
