Columbus, GA (WTVM) – With most kids out of school for the summer, they’re looking for something exciting to get through the summer.
A teenager in Columbus gets his first job to help his mother and family.
“I was walking with a lawn mower and someone stopped me and asked me to mow the lawn, so I did,” says Jaden Jackson.
A Facebook post of 12-year-old Jayden looking for a lawn to mow has been shared more than 100 times.
“I was a little overwhelmed, but it’s been great,” said her mother, Angel Jackson.
Jaden has just completed his 5th grade at True Springs Academy. Jaden is resuming his lawn door-to-door service this summer, and he’s already making some money.
“I can’t remember when I first started, but I felt great when I started,” says Jaden.
“He’s always loved to mow. He watches YouTube videos, mows day and night, eats weeds, and it’s natural,” says Jackson.
Jaden is the second oldest of the six. His mother says he is by far the father figure and that anyone can ask him about his work ethic.
“He’s just a hard worker and always goes out of his way to help anyone he can,” says Jackson. “He wanted to help his brothers and sisters, not just around his house. And he wanted to help him stand up for school needs.” said Angel Jackson.
Jaden not only wants to get ready for school, but he also wants to help his mother, who has lupus. Jackson says living with the disease is hard, but most of the medical bills are covered.
“Anything I need, he’ll go and get. He won’t even ask me, just go and get it because Mommy wants it.” says Jackson. “Most kids in this area have a lot of problems. I was just blown away that he moved away from that stuff. And he really wants to help and do things the right way.” I think.”
Jaden already has loyal customers. Newsreader 9 spoke to one of them, Jim Hudson.
“He could have played outside and run around, but he was trying to make money,” Hudson says. “He was very impressive and came back several times. I didn’t have to mow the grass at the time, but he still came and asked. He’s building a customer base.”
Hudson says Jaden is professional, tenacious and on the right track.
“He is going somewhere with his life. It will be an asset and even more an asset for him,” Hudson says.
Please contact Jaden’s mother at 706-366-6446 if you would like your lawn mowed.
Jaden’s other brothers’ names are Empress, Israel, Zechariah, Elijah and Moses.
