(WHTM) — April marks the beginning of the lawn care season, when we start mowing, weeding, and preparing for summer. But as you do, you need to know some lawn care dos and don’ts.
According to Bob Vila.com, things to do include:
- Mow the lawn when it is dry. Mowing wet grass can cause mold.
- Water early in the morning. Evening watering can also encourage fungal growth.
- Fertilize in spring and autumn, when you need it most. Many lawn experts say you may skip feeding in July because of the heat.
- Apply grub processing even if you don’t think you need it. Thank you later.
Something you can not do:
- Don’t cut the grass too short. The golf course look is not for home use.
- Do not mow with dull blades. It tears up the grass and leads to brown tips.
- Do not over water. Roots do not grow deep. Your lawn needs only 1 inch of water per week.
- But from the ‘Doesn’t it smell?
- In the heat of July or August, many people sow and fill holes.
However, it is very difficult to grow new grass in hot, dry weather. It needs to be watered every day, but even that may not be enough.
Fill those dead spots in April. Even better, it’s October when the weather is cooler. Finally, monitor your yard for moles and groundhogs. If left unchecked, it can do a lot of damage.
If moles start tunneling through your yard, it may be tempting to call a professional to avoid wasting money.
