Recommendation: Watch out for doors and windows on the first floor
Most thieves want the easiest route to your home. Install cameras inside and outside the door on the ground floor. Don’t forget the side door and back door too.
In the event of a break-in, you can capture a clear image of their face as they walk to your door and see everything they do indoors.

DON’T: Put a camera in your bedroom
Most of us don’t want to deal with turning the camera on and off. Sure, some come with automatic home and away modes, but the idea of a camera capturing personal moments makes me sick.
Here’s a scary thought: someone hacked into your security system. Check out these signs if you suspect what happened to you.
Recommendation: Place it high
Placement makes a world of difference. The worst place you can put your camera is the ground. You might step on it, your dog might take a shower (if you know what I mean), and it won’t record useful footage.
Higher is better. This placement means the camera can capture the big picture. If the camera is 8 to 10 feet off the ground, the full body of the intruder is more likely to be seen, helping police narrow down the list of suspects.
Don’t: Stick a camera in the bathroom
Not only is it offensive to your guests, but it can also be against the law. It is illegal to record people without their consent where privacy is expected.
have understood. There are medicines and other things that I want to be careful about. A contractor once stole painkillers from her mother’s medicine cabinet. Instead of installing a camera, she attached a motion sensor to the medicine cabinet door.
Sensors are a great way to ensure safety without constant digital eyes. Here’s a smarter place to paste one.
To do: Use corners to your advantage
The goal of security cameras is to capture as much high-quality footage as possible. Placing the camera in a corner gives you the big picture.
No kidding, anything can be a hidden camera. Here’s how to find them on Airbnb, VRBO, or another rental.
Don’t: Block the Lens
Most thieves break in through obvious places like windows and doors. Keep it simple and point the lens at a high-traffic area.
Avoid obstacles like plants, tree branches and backyard jungle gyms. Raise your cameras high to prevent running pets or rowdy children from throwing them out.

What to do: Put up a sign
People behave differently when they know they are being recorded. I have a sign in my yard to let someone know it is being recorded. Amazon’s $12 Sign Stakes are included for placing in the ground.
