About 25,000 passengers are expected to fly out of Auckland airport today after a weekend of heavy rain.
Auckland Airport CEO Carey Frihanganui said travelers were urged to check with their airlines and confirm their flights before heading to the airport.
“We know that travelers whose international flights have been disrupted by this natural disaster are exhausted and want to go where they want to go.
“We are aware that some people are taking longer to reschedule their flights, which can lead to travel frustration and distress. Our goal is to get people home as soon as possible. However, the reality is that a large number of flights have been delayed due to severe flooding, the terminals are very congested and it will take some time before normal international operations are fully restored. “If possible, wait until travel is booked and scheduled for the day before travelers come to the international terminal so that matchmaking and farewell parties can be arranged in our waiting zone, or pick-up/drop-off area. It will be really helpful if I can use it. Goodbye.”
She said yesterday there were more than 20,000 travelers aboard 41 international departures and 39 international arrivals.
International travelers are currently expected to arrive at or depart Auckland Airport with 61 inbound flights and 61 outbound flights.
Important advice for travelers from Auckland Airport:
- Only travelers with international bookings will be asked to come to the international terminal
- Travelers are advised to contact the airline or check the airline’s app or website to reschedule their flights
- As operations gradually return to normal, normal operations may be disrupted for several days. Please allow extra time for check-in as the terminal is very busy.
