Fashion week is known for flashy photo shoots, creative looks, and glossy runways. But some TikTokers believe Fall 2023’s New York Fashion Week, which spotlighted the industry’s biggest names, traded glitz and glamor for chaos and mayhem.
In a viral video that has been viewed 5.8 million times since Tuesday, TikTok user Danny (@nomoredanny) posted a summary of the incident at the latest New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2023, which was held from Thursday to Wednesday.
“New York Fashion Week this year was a disaster,” Danny said. (The Daily Dot emailed @nomoredanny for comment.)
@nomoredanny Fashion week was a disaster 😳
Between the influencer onslaught and the PETA protests, here are five reasons why people are calling this year’s NYFW a mess.
5 questions about New York Fashion Week Fall 2023
1) Influencers replace models
Danny said in the video that this year’s NYFW problems started with organizations deciding to replace some of the models at their events with influencers.
Internet celebrities etc. Coco Bliss and Wow, Vicki She walked the event’s runway alongside models Naomi Campbell and Emily Ratajkowski.
“This year they decided to use influencers because they thought it would get more attention and coverage, but it just looked terrible,” Danny explained.
Other users also shared Danny’s thoughts on the presence of influencers.
“Thank you!!! It was a total mess and I’m wondering why they didn’t become a legacy brand,” one user wrote in the comments.
“Just like a lot of people think models are just sexy women wearing clothes. This shows how it’s so much more than that,” another wrote. I am.
2) Fake Ariana skipped the runway
Among the many influencers who graced the runway at the Creators Inc. x Bossi show were: Paige Niemann, an Ariana Grande lookalike. In Dani’s TikTok, she can be seen limping and skipping down the runway with her hands at her sides.
Danny shares other reactions to the video highlighting Neiman’s unique runway walk.
One person wrote, “After drinking 72 ounces of cold beer, I’m trying not to let myself down.”
3) The intruder also decides to walk.
Not everyone who walked the NYFW runway was invited. At the Creators show, a man wearing a plastic shower curtain and shower cap walked down the runway and was apparently tackled by a security guard who tried to remove him from the stage.
Some believed that Intruder’s confidence and avant-garde appearance earned him a spot on the runway.
One person commented on the intruder’s video: “This is hilarious, he looks legit.”
“They were furious because it was the best design in the collection,” another wrote.

Canadian-American influencers Nerk Boyz have done similar things, with Kyle Forgiard wearing black angel wings and a suit jacket with nothing underneath to “walk the runway.” I snuck in.”in Instagram post According to his description, Kyle appears to have fallen and struggled to get back up after walking down the runway.
The Nerk Boyz posted the video on TikTok and Instagram, surprising Danny as they didn’t seem to be involved in the issue that allegedly interrupted the show.
“It’s so crazy that the security guard didn’t notice,” Danny said on his TikTok.
Neiman and Nelk Boyz did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Dot.
4) PETA protesters show up
“Fashion Week would never have been complete without animal protesters storming the runways,” Danny said.
This year was no exception, as PETA protesters disrupted Coach’s show holding signs that read “Coach: Leather Kills.” Another protester wore body paint resembling muscles and tendons with the same message painted on his chest. A security guard picked up one of the protesters and carried him off the runway.
The protest is part of PETA’s anti-leather campaign to “spread the message to the public that leather belongs in the historical record, not in a designer’s current collection,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy. Lyman said in a press release.

5) Model is dissatisfied with makeup
It also drew criticism from industry experts. On Monday, a model shared a video complaining that her makeup artist for a photo shoot made her “look like a ghost” when she applied cream-colored foundation.
The TikTok, which has been viewed 6.8 million times, highlights makeup artists’ lack of knowledge about black skin care.
“POV: You are a black model,” says TikTok.
Milan said she took a break from filming to touch up her own makeup at Sephora.
In another video, Milan expresses her frustration as she wipes white makeup off her face. “She’s very frustrated. She’s very tired,” she said. “It’s really frustrating having to deal with this 24/7.”
@Megan Millan I usually bring foundation with me just in case, but I let my guard down. Plus, I didn’t want to carry around my makeup bag all day, so this was my first task of the day 😭. I had to go to Sephora and do my own makeup before heading back 😀. #nyfw #model problem #Black model #Black models are important ♬ Original song – Mitan
