“A few months ago I was visiting my parents and helping my mom chop firewood outside – chopping dead trees, splitting logs, all sorts of stuff. I was hot, sweaty, tired, and in the mood for a cold shower. A college student my parents went to church with at the time needed a place to host her family for graduation weekend. My parents had plenty of space and hosted her parents, her sister, her brother-in-law, her new baby, and her cousin. Well, I arrived back at the same time as the guests. We introduced ourselves and chatted for a bit. They were shown to their rooms and I stepped away to take a shower. I went to my usual room, closed the door, turned the shower on, and started to get undressed (like I always do) when I heard the door to my room open.”
“Honestly, I wasn’t sure if the noise was in my mind or not. Whenever I get home, my mom or dad will knock, open the door, and call my name if necessary (imagine that, as if they don’t want me in their room with my pants off). So I turn around with my pants half down to see a college student, his sister, his cousin, and his dad standing at the front door. I instinctively say, “Can I just take a shower here?” and they respond, “Oh, sorry, we were looking elsewhere in the house.”
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’m not the kind of person who, as a guest in someone else’s home, would open a closed door unless I was specifically told I could come in. I’m naked here!”
