The new tour offers the closest view ever to the palace’s famous balconies.

The East Wing has just completed a five-year renovation which has meant it is now open to the public, fulfilling Prince Charles’ wish to open the palace to the public.

He has a passionate interest in the collection and this is a fantastic opportunity to share these spaces.”
Known as the “East Wing Highlights Tour,” the tour will also include paintings from George IV’s collection, as well as antique English and French furniture, Japanese and Chinese art, de Guiteau said.
“The history of this wing of the palace is very interesting because it was the last addition to the palace built by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and it created the famous façade with the balcony, which was the way the queen interacted with the people and showed herself to them,” de Guiteau said, “and of course that tradition has continued through the centuries and continues today.”
The East Wing Highlights Tour, which is limited to 20 people at a time, runs daily in July and August. Tours sold out quickly after tickets went on sale online earlier this year.
As well as opening the East Wing to the public, Prince Charles also recently gave the public a first look at Balmoral Castle’s new rooms.
