Hey everyone! We’re less than 50 days away from Election Day, so we’re back with another installment of BuzzFeed’s 2024 Election Diary!
This weekly series will focus on different groups of voters across the country to find out what political issues matter most to them and who they plan to support in the 2024 presidential election.
Similarly, in a recent interview with CNN, Vance doubled down on the false rumors, saying, “If I have to fabricate a story to get the American media to actually pay attention to the suffering of the American people, then I’m going to do that…”
So in light of these controversies, we asked members of the BuzzFeed community who are immigrants to share which candidate they plan to support in November and what issues matter most to them.
Let’s discuss the 2024 election
In our poll, 63% of respondents expressed support for Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, 32% expressed support for Donald Trump.
Here’s what 15 immigrants said anonymously, whether you agree with their political views or not.

“I was born in China and grew up in Hong Kong until high school, then my family and I moved to Arizona. In this election, the character of the candidate is most important to me. I am voting for Kamala because she is well-educated and will serve the interests of the United States. Trump is a con man, a liar, and only cares about his own interests.”
2.
“I’m originally from Venezuela, and my biggest priority in this election is protecting the rights of all minorities (immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, etc.). I support Kamala Harris for two reasons. First, I believe she is an incredible woman and truly has what it takes to lead this country out of this mess.”
3.
“I currently live on the East Coast, but my parents moved here from Asia over 20 years ago when I was in kindergarten. The issues I care most about in this election are the economy and immigration. There are pros and cons on both sides, but given the issues I care about, supporting Trump makes the most sense. You don’t have to support someone as a person to support their cause, and this is a perfect example of that.”
4.
“I am currently in the green card process and cannot vote, but if I could, I would absolutely vote for Harris. I have been in the US on a visa for six years, a position I am very privileged to be in, but it has been difficult (especially during the Trump Administration), which has actively sought to significantly limit or completely eliminate the visa that allowed me to stay in the US.”
5.
“I’m an immigrant, but have been a citizen for five years. Four years ago I voted for Biden, and this year I’m voting for Harris. Trump’s comments about immigrants are just one of many reasons why I will never vote for him. Plus, I like what the Democratic Party stands for and my beliefs align with theirs.”
6.
“I became a citizen in 2018. I had no idea when I took my naturalization oath at nine months pregnant that my daughter was the Schrodinger’s cat of freedom. Could I consciously vote against the freedom of other Americans to make choices about their own bodies? As a grateful immigrant, I will vote for freedom and Harris/Waltz. I did not earn my freedom in order to give it up.”
7.
“I’m originally from Russia but now live in Michigan. The economy is my biggest issue, so I’m going to vote for Donald Trump. While the economy wasn’t perfect under Donald Trump, many of the factors that directly affect the daily lives of most Americans (like gasoline and grocery prices) were in much better shape.”
8.
“I am voting for Harris because under the Trump administration, I was unable to get my green card for four years. Under the Biden administration, I got my green card renewal and citizenship within a year. With Trump being president for four years, it took seven years for a process that would have taken three years.”
10.
“I moved to Florida from Honduras. I’m worried about the economy so I’m voting for Trump who is already president. I know what to expect from him. There’s a lot going on in the news but I don’t know Kamala well enough to support her.”
11.
“I’m an immigrant from Kenya. Freedoms (reproductive rights, voting rights, democracy in general) are important to me in this election. Harris is positive, intelligent and experienced. She seems temperamental, unifying and trustworthy.”
12.
“I’m from the UK and maintaining our democracy (and reproductive rights) is my number one priority. I believe voting for Donald Trump is a vote to take away my own rights.”
13.
“I’m from Germany and the economy and spending are my top priorities in this election. I’m voting for Trump because he has great ideas to strengthen the economy and keep the US out of war.”
14.
“I moved here from Montserrat. My biggest challenge is to have competent, qualified people in the White House and in Congress, to reduce division, and to increase cooperation so we can all get back on track.”
15.
“I will be voting for Jill Stein. I believe Kamala’s hardline stance on sending more money and weapons overseas is alienating me and many Muslim voters who would otherwise vote Democratic. I fear that this stance will cost her the support of Muslims in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota and ultimately cost her battleground states.”
