Sardinia is one of the most fascinating and diverse places to visit in Italy. Located in the Mediterranean Sea to the west of the mainland, this relatively large island (for a European island) has some of Sardina’s best things to do throughout its coast and inland valleys.
Italy is obviously known for its amazing places. That’s natural. This is especially true of all of Italy’s magnificent cities, which are completely luxurious.
That being said, what they end up doing is making you want to go back and explore more of Italy. This is exactly where Sardinia comes into play.
Honestly, Sardinia feels like the kind of place you’d visit for a vacation soaking up the sun. She’s also the second largest island in the Mediterranean (even bigger than Cyprus), so it’s full of beautiful bays and quaint little villages. Explore.
With that in mind, I wanted to share some of my favorite and best things to do in Sardinia when visiting Sardinia. It’s a very beautiful island, so please take your time and explore it! I hope you have the best time.
1.) Carla Goloritze
Located in the Gulf of Orosei, Cala Golorice is one of the beautiful beaches and coastlines to explore when visiting Baunei.
Well, the beach itself is actually quite new! This stunning little area was only formed (naturally) in the 1960s when a massive landslide necessitated exploration. Absolutely amazing.
Also, nearby are Le Fillier della Aguria. This is a very unique spot on the island and when you drive along the coastal route it will be one of the best things to do in Sardinia.

2.) Cagliari
Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, is the perfect Italian city to visit for those who like lots of small restaurants, historical hills, and quaint little streets.
When you’re here, be sure to explore Bastione San Remi. If you prefer a city beach with plenty of bars, check out St. Mary’s Cathedral and Poetto.
A great place to start (or end) your trip to Sardinia, and well worth a few days.
It’s a very nice city.

3.) Perosa Beach
For me, a visit to Pelosa Beach is a must when exploring the Northern Route of Sardinia. It is truly stunning and one of the best beach areas (and coastal areas in all of Italy).
Trust me, once you arrive you’ll understand why.
Now, the only thing to remember is that it can get quite crowded if you arrive in high season. If you keep this in mind and try to avoid weekends, you’ll have a much quieter and completely peaceful experience.
It’s beautiful and a relatively easy day trip from Sassari.
Alternatively, if you want to stay longer, you can travel from Stintino to Asinara Island or take a boat tour to swim in the waters surrounding the island itself.
4.) Tavolara Island
The coastline overlooking the island of Tavolara, not far from the city of Olbia, is a great place for a stroll. Dotted with small fishing villages and eateries, it’s hard not to enjoy this place.

5.) Bossa
Located on the western tip of Sardinia, just off the coast, Bosa is a charming town you can explore while driving further north (or south).
It’s not a place you’d spend a week exploring, but it’s well worth stopping in for a few hours, especially for lunch. Well, one of the authentic and intimate small gourmet spots is Trattoria Sa Cariasathe pasta is so delicious!

6.) Olbia
Located not far from the coastal route (near the island of Tavolara), exploring Olbia is one of the best things to do in Sardinia if you’re a history buff. Olbia may be small, but it’s packed with historical sites to explore.
When you’re here, be sure to visit the Obria Archaeological Museum. Everything from Roman ships to ancient artifacts is on display. It’s an incredible place and a great little spot to explore when you want to spend some time in the sun.
Oh, and don’t forget that you can Book an amazing sailing tour from Olbia Explore the pristine waters of La Maddalena Islands. It’s just amazing.
7.) Arzachena
Situated near the north coast of Sardinia, Sassari is a charming town to visit during your drive north.
When you’re here, be sure to take a look at St. Lucia’s Church and its colorful staircase. Then stop at the giant La Rocha del Fungo, carved by the wind over thousands of years.
Also just outside of town are Nuraghe Albucci, Tempietto Marchitu and Tombe dei Giganti. The history of these settlements dates back thousands of years and is quite incredible to see.
That being said, if you’re not interested in ancient history, you might want to give it a miss.
8.) Cala Luna
If you want a more relaxing and perfect day out, relaxing in Cala Luna is one of the best things to do in Sardinia.
Located within the Gennargentu National Park, this beach is worth a visit if you’re exploring the east coast. Please enjoy the whole area and drive. A truly special region of Sardinia.

9.) Alghero
Based in northern Sardinia, Alghero is Cagliari’s sister city and is well worth a visit while on the island. Also, depending on who you fly with, you may actually end up landing here.
This makes it a very easy city to visit before picking up your car and exploring the rest of Sardinia.
While you’re here, be sure to visit the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the Basilica of San Francesco, and the Nuraghe Palmavera.
The latter is said to have been built during the Bronze Age.
10.) Maddalena Islands National Park
Just off the north coast of Sardinia is the Isola Maddalena National Park. It’s an island worth visiting if you want a break from island driving.
That said, if you want to go beyond La Maddalena, be sure to drive the rural route to the north. It’s one of the best things to do in Sardinia, especially if you like national parks.

11.) Roche Rosse (Red Rocks) Beach
Just off the coast of Arbatax, Red Rocks Beach is close to Tortoli but worth a short walk. After exploring the beach area, be sure to drive to San Gemiliano Tower.
It’s only a 5 minute drive away and well worth a visit.
12.) Spiaggia del Principe
A short drive from Isla Maddalena, Spiaggia del Principe Beach is a truly beautiful beach. The entire beach has the clearest water on the island, and the sand is also very beautiful.
Well, you have to pay to park here. It costs about 20 euros per day, but it’s worth it. Remember, this is one of the best things to do in Sardinia, so it can get a little crowded. If you want to reduce crowds, avoid weekends.

13.) Roman city of Talos
The ancient city of Talos was once the vibrant Roman center of Sardinia and is a must-see when on the island.
Almost 3,000 years old, Talos is now in ruins, but you can still walk around and see the service facilities that were once part of this huge city.
It’s a great place to walk around and has good access. This means it’s one of the best activities to do in Sardinia if you’ve got the whole family together. Extensive hiking and dangerous mountain climbing are prohibited.
You’ll probably spend around 1-2 hours here in total, so it’s a great quick stop while driving around the island.
14.) Cape San Marco
Cape San Marco, not far from the city of Oristano, is a beautiful area to visit after seeing the Roman city of Talos. As you know, Talos is located at the bottom of the cape itself, so it is very easy to visit the “coastal sandbar” after seeing the archaeological remains.
It’s a great area with lots of restaurants and bars.
15.) Costa Verde
Across the bay from Cape St. Mark’s is the beginning of the Costa Verde, which continues down the western coastline.
The nature is completely untouched, with many small coves and beaches (such as Spiaggia di Funtanazza and Spiaggia di Picinas) Well worth a visit. If you want to enjoy a day at the beach, he is one of the best activities to do in Sardinia.
It’s absolutely gorgeous and one of the best things to do when exploring Sardinia’s west coastline.
