1. Visit the enchanting Bladenburg Gate
Perhaps the most famous symbol of German power throughout history, the Brandenburg Gate still stands strong three centuries after its construction. The gate was built after the Thirty Years’ War as a symbol of peace, but was later used as a victory monument for German leaders. The building was designed with inspiration from the Greek Acropolis, and despite its resemblance to it, it is recognized as the most important building in Berlin in its own right.
2. Admire the National Diet Building
The Reichstag, or literally the Reichstag, is another wonder of Berlin. The original building is more than a century old, but was destroyed by the Dutch Communist Party, which opposed Hitler’s election as chancellor. It was renovated in 1999 and is open to the public free of charge. It is best known for its giant glass dome that overlooks the city.

6. Visit the Bode Museum
If you’re an art and history lover, Bode Museum is the place for you. The Kunsthistorisches Museum is located on a small river island in Berlin. There are many beautiful statues and paintings dating back to the Byzantine Empire.
7. Don’t miss the Pergamon Museum
If you’re interested in antiques, check out the Pergamon Museum. It is known for containing a wide range of Islamic and Middle Eastern artifacts dating back more than 1,000 years.
8. Listen to opera
Germans are historically known for their great classical music and are proud of that fact. There are several opera houses in Berlin that you can visit and enjoy if you are a fan. The oldest one is the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, which is about 300 years old. Other options include Deutsche Oper Berlin and Komische Oper Berlin.
9. See the terrain of terrorism
The Nazi History Museum was built on the site of the former Gestapo headquarters before it was destroyed by bombing at the end of World War II. The building was destroyed, but the Gestapo basement was left intact. The basement was later discovered and the artifacts were kept in a museum.
