At least one person was killed and four injured in a shooting outside a Houston club early Sunday, officials said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at a press conference that “more than 50 shots were fired” in the parking lot of “some kind of club/bar.”
Police responded to the shooting around 2 a.m. and learned five people had been shot, Gonzalez said.
One person was killed and police are trying to determine the extent of injuries to the four victims, he added. Two men and three women are believed to have been shot, Gonzalez said.
“It looks like more than 50 shots were fired here. It’s a very frightening situation considering there is a mobile food truck and the number of patrons outside,” he said.
The shooting appeared to have been a drive-by shooting, Gonzalez said, although the information officials had was “preliminary.”
“We believe there may have been a vehicle that stopped around 2 a.m.,” he said. “There were several people inside the vehicle who got out and started firing at patrons who were outside the club at the time.”
Homicide investigators are investigating the shooting and trying to find witnesses, officials said.
